Demo of the accents, skip beats and auto accents features

What are they?

Accents on selected beats to help you hear the rhythm more clearly.

What can you do?

  • Accent any beat or subdivision with quick right click.
  • Skip any beat completely with a left click.
  • Click and drag to adjust volume of a beat as desired
  • The auto accents feature adds accents to the entire measure. You can set it to normal or Jazz style accents.

Where is it?

Where do I find it in Bounce Metronome:

Right click accents and click and drag to adjust volumes are available everywhere in Bounce Metronome including the free taster.

The Auto Accents option is a Pro feature available for most of the rhythms.

Accents

You can right click on any beat to switch between accented, unaccented or quieter than usual.

Also you can have any number of accent levels - so more than three levels, or just two (accented and unaccented) as you prefer.

You can set your preferred volume for each level of accents.

Where do I find it in Bounce Metronome:

Right click accents are configured in Bounce Preferences in the Bounce drop down menu (or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + 220). You can use it with any of the bounce windows including the free taster.

Adjust

You can click and drag on a display of the beat times and volumes to set the volume and timing of each beat directly. Or enter the volumes as numbers.

Where do I find it in Bounce Metronome:

For the click and drag to adjust, see Adjust Individual beats (Ctrl + 76, or in the Rhythm drop down menu) . Or use the middle button to click and drag on the blocks display below the bouncing balls.

To enter the volumes as numbers see Adjust Individual beats as Numbers (Ctrl + 77).

Both these options are available throughout Bounce Metronome including the free taster.

Auto accents

With the auto accents you set how much you want the main beats accented by, and all the accents are added for you automatically, to every rhythm you play.

The accents can be Normal or Jazz style.

With Jazz auto accents the first beat of the measure is unaccented, and second and fourth of 4/4 are accented as in Jazz. With normal auto accents the first and third beats of 4/4 are accented. Similarly for other rhythms.

Also with Normal auto accents the subdivisions are unaccented, while with Jazz auto accents the subdivisions are accented.

For beats with more than two subdivisions, usually alternate sub-beats are louder and softer.

However you can configure all this in various ways including an option to let the beats get gradually softer and faster like a Buzz roll on the drums.

Where do I find it in Bounce Metronome:

The Auto Accents option is a Pro feature available for most of the rhythms.

Configured in Swing and Auto Accents - Preferences in the Beats drop down menu (or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + 232).

For a fast way to switch on the accents and switch between Normal and Jazz style, look for an Accents button available in the main window for most of the rhythms. Click on it to switch on the preset auto accents, and then to toggle between normal and Jazz style auto accents.

Skip beats

You can also skip any beat with a quick left click on the beat. This lets you do syncopated rhythms of course, e.g. skip the main beat and play the subdivisions only.

But this feature is a much more versatile tool than just a method to play syncopated rhythms.

Most rhythms involving notes of different sizes can be made in this way. E.g. to make any rhythm involving notes up to sixteenth notes, make sure the part has enough beats to play sixteenth notes (e.g. sixteen beats to the part in 4/4) and then just skip or play individual beats as needed to get the rhythm you want.

That's the basis for the Drum & Dance rhythms in fact. It does it all automatically for you - enter the rhythm using music notation and it will automatically set up the desired rhythm (using automatically skipped beats).

Where do I find it in Bounce Metronome:

Available in all the bounce windows, and everywhere including the Free Taster.

The Drum & Dance rhythms (entered using music notation instead of individually skipped beats) are a pro feature.

Who is it for?

Accents are useful for all musicians to help pick out the rhythm.

They can be especially useful for Jazz musicians and anyone playing syncopated rhythms.

That's especially so if you find you lose your place, or find it hard to keep up the syncopation for many measures at a time. It may help to have a syncopated effect in the metronome to remind you where to play the syncopated beats and to keep you on track with the rhythm.
