Polymeters, and Rhythm Phasing
Bounce Metronome Feature:
Pro Version Only
What are they?
The word Polymeter is often used for beat (tactus) preserving polymeters - rhythms with different time signatures played in step with each other, like Denny AJDs polymeter example, All the beats are the same size, or are multiples of two, four (or other power of two) of each other.
Polymeter is the more general term, So polymeters also include the normal measure preserving polyrhythms, also the 4/4 : 4/3 type rhythms with measure and beat both varying - also the golden ratio rhythms. You can find all those under polyrhythms, so won't repeat them here.
In rhythm phasing, you play rhythms together at different tempi, and can choose any tempo you like for each rhythm.
What can you do?
You can play beat preserving polymeters with any number of beats per measure in each rhythm (up to 16 rhythms simultaneously). Also any number of subdivisions of the beats.
You can also combine the Drum & Dance patterns together using techniques of Rhythm Phasing - with a different tempo for each of the parts in the rhythm.
The bounce visuals give you a wonderful new tool to help you to learn these complex rhythms.
