The new version of the page explains more clearly how the notation works, and also explains the other notation, which I call Polyrhythm Notation in Bounce Metronome, and why it was necessary to have this variation on Brian Ferneyhough's notation to describe some of the rhythms you can make in Bounce Metronome.

The Bounce Beta for Mac OSX used to be in regular use by many musicians. Sadly, it can't run on High Sierra or later because Apple dropped support for 32 bit apps.

Bounce Metronome, the brain child of Robert Walker, is a fascinating app that I’d strongly suggest you check out, particularly if you’re interested in polyrhythms. I recently bought the scores of Fred Lerdahl’s three string quartets. They’re brilliant, and the inventiveness of his cross rhythms is inspiring. Bounce Metronome has allowed me to program some of Fred’s rhythms, and I’ve begun creating variations on them.
